“The day I made a decision to participate in the Body Balance Challenge was the day I decided to stop making excuses for being overweight. Some of the excuses I used to make were ‘I’m overweight because I’ve had two kids’, or ‘I don’t have time to go to the gym’, or ‘I eat healthy but I just can’t seem to lose the weight’. I was finding myself having days where I felt so tired and lethargic that I would sometimes even need a ‘nanna nap’ when my son was having his afternoon nap. I told myself, this is not normal… I don’t have a newborn baby anymore. I needed to work out why I was so tired all the time. I found that because I was feeling so tired, I was eating more and snacking on sugary foods to give myself energy, but really I was just setting myself up for a fall. I noticed I was gradually putting on weight and although I was doing my best to ignore it, I didn’t feel good about myself.
One of my goals is to experience life to the full and everything it has to offer me and I don’t want to be held back because of lack of confidence in myself and appearance. I want to be a good influence to my family and especially to my kids on living a healthy life and most of all I want to be able to keep up with my boys as they grow and develop.
In the past I have tried other weight loss diets before but nothing that really educated me about why I should eat certain foods, when I should eat them and why I should do resistance training. This BBC has taken my understanding of healthy eating to a higher level. This challenge has been fantastic for me because it has given me the tools I need to lose weight and be healthy and fit. Having regular weigh-ins and personal meetings with Robb gave me the accountability I needed to lose weight and taught me how to become accountable to myself.
Truthfully, doing this Body Balance Challenge hasn’t been easy. It has actually been very challenging (hence the title!). However, because it has been challenging, it has made it all the more rewarding for myself personally. There were times throughout the challenge where it was difficult to stick to the plan if I was eating out at restaurants or being invited out to dinner, however learning about how to choose healthier options and proper portion sizes made it a lot easier to manage. Doing the BBC in a group setting has also been great as it creates a support group where you can discuss your struggles and achievements and sharing these with others has been encouraging to hear that we are all going through similar journeys.
The sense of achievement I feel after losing 6.5 kilos in 8 weeks is just fantastic and if anyone had told me 8 weeks ago that I could lose 6.5 kilos in such a short time, I don’t think I could have really believed them. This has been a life changing thing for me and seeing my results has made me even more determined to keep going to get to my goal weight. Eating bad food and not exercising has made me feel depressed and sluggish in the past and the feeling I get from eating right and exercising is one where I feel stronger, fitter, healthier and cleaner on the inside. Feeling fit and healthy is the best feeling you can have and I believe that a healthy body also means a healthy mind. My thoughts are now a lot clearer and I feel as the weight is coming off my body, the real me is coming back. The real me with confidence, goals, drive and most of all happiness!
I would definitely recommend the BBC to others if they need to boost their energy, confidence and fitness and improve their way of life”.
